נָתַ֣תָּה שִׂמְחָ֣ה בְלִבִּ֑י מֵעֵ֬ת דְּגָנָ֖ם וְתִֽירוֹשָׁ֣ם רָֽבּוּ

You put joy into my heart, more than when their grain and wine show increase.

Behold, they requite me evil for good, but, as for me, there was gladness in my heart at their prosperity - that is

From the time when their corn and wine multiplied:
and they are rejoicing at my evil. And the meaning of Thou hast put is in the sense of what they have said (Babli, Yoma 38 b, and in other places), " He who comes to be purified is helped." And it is a good way for a man to rejoice in the prosperity of his fellows. And him who walks in a good way God helps and directs: and this is the force of Thou hast put.

You put joy into my heart
“but Thou hast already put joy in my heart.” “I do not have to beg Thee for happiness first,” says David. “Thou hast already put into my heart that joy which the others seek outside and for which they would ask Thee. I am happy since I feel near to Thee (Verse 1), far happier than they are, at a time when they behold their corn and their wine, the outward symbols of their good fortune in all its bounty.”
