Lammenatzeiach al-ayyeles hashachar mizmor ledovid
For the conductor, on the ayeleth hashachar, a song of David.
Eli eli lamah azavtani rachok mishu'ati divrei sha'agati
My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? [You are] far from my salvation [and] from the words of my roaring.
Elohai ekra yomam velo ta'aneh velayyelah velo-dumiyyah li
My God, I call out by day and You do not reply, and at night I do not keep silent.
Ve'attah kadosh yoshev tehillot yisra'el
But You are holy, enthroned upon the praises of Israel.
becha batechu avoteinu batechu vattefalletemo
In You our fathers trusted; they trusted, and You rescued them.
Eleicha za'aku venimlatu becha vatechu velo-voshu
To You they cried out and they escaped; in You they trusted and were not disappointed.
Ve'anochi tola'at velo-ish cherpat adam uvezui am
But I am a worm, less than human; scorned by men, despised by people.
Kol-ro'ai yal'igu li yaftiru vesafah yani'u rosh
All who see me mock me; they curl their lips, they shake their heads.
Gol el-adonai yefalletehu yatzilehu ki chafetz bo
One should cast his trust upon the Lord, and He will rescue him; He will save him because He delights in him.
Ki-attah gochi mibbaten mavtichi al-shedei immi
You drew me from the womb, made me secure at my mother’s breast.
Aleicha hoshlachti merachem mibbeten immi eli attah
Upon You, I was cast from birth; from my mother's womb You are my God.
