וְאַתָּ֣ה יְ֭הוָה מָגֵ֣ן בַּעֲדִ֑י כְּ֝בוֹדִ֗י וּמֵרִ֥ים רֹאשִֽׁי

But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, He Who raises up my head.

MIDRASH TEHILLIM

1.....(3.6)
The nations of the earth say to Israel, this people heard God speak the words: "I am the LORD your God that brought you out of the land of Egypt. You shall not have the gods of others in My presence" (Shemot - Exodus 20:2-3), and yet, forty days later, this people said of a molten calf: "These are your gods, O Israel, who have brought you up from the land of Egypt" (Shemot - Exodus 32:8). Can such a people expect help? Surely there is no help for it in God ever. And although You O LORD do agree with the nations, for You did write in Your Torah: "He who slaughters [a sacrifice] to the gods shall be utterly destroyed, except to the Lord alone." (Shemot - Exodus 22:19), yet You have not destroyed us utterly, but for You O LORD, that are a shield about me. If You had not made the merits of our fathers, Avraham, Yitzchok and Yakov, You would not have protected us.

My Glory...
That is, If I had not caused the glory of Your presence to dwell among us as is said: "And they shall make Me a sanctuary and I will dwell in their midst" (Shemot - Exodus 25:8), what then? But You are become the lifter of my head, instead of cutting off our heads as we deserved.
